The Albuquerque German Language Club (AGLG) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the German language, culture, and traditions throughout Albuquerque and New Mexico. We bring together German speakers, cultural enthusiasts, local businesses, educators, and community members who share an interest in the rich heritage and contemporary influence of the German-speaking world.
Founded to strengthen cultural understanding and international connection, the AGLG creates opportunities for friendship, exchange through community events, social gatherings, and cultural programming. Our monthly meetings and activities help connect people with shared interests while encouraging appreciation for the traditions, language, music, food, and history of German-speaking countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and neighboring regions.
One of our signature events is the annual outdoor Albuquerque Christkindlmarket, in 2026 for the first time time at Winrock Park. Now entering its third year, the market has quickly become a growing holiday tradition in Albuquerque, welcoming thousands of visitors each December. The event features authentic German-inspired food and beverages, artisan vendors, live music, family-friendly entertainment, and opportunities to connect with German business and cultural leaders in New Mexico.
The 2026 Christkindlmarket is expected to attract approximately 20,000 visitors and will include more than 100 vendors, 10 food trucks, a wine & beer garden, and live music and entertainment throughout the day. Additionally, guests will also have the opportunity to meet the German Honorary Consul and representatives from German businesses active in the region.
The AGLG is proud to support the growing relationship between the city of Albuquerque and the German-speaking business community. As German companies continue exploring opportunities for manufacturing and investment in New Mexico, we are committed to helping make Albuquerque a welcoming and internationally connected city for German speakers, visitors, students, and professionals.
Looking ahead, our vision is to expand the Christkindlmarket into a multi-day cultural destination that encourages tourism, supports local businesses, and celebrates the holiday season through authentic German traditions and community engagement.
Whether you are fluent in German, learning the language, connected through heritage, or simply interested in experiencing German culture, we welcome you to join us.
